The EgroNet – the cross-border local public transport system at the heart of Central Europe – is easy to use, environmentally-friendly, comfortable and efficient. It enables people to explore the Four States region of Bavaria, Thuringia, Saxony and the Karlovy Vary district of the Czech Republic on trams, buses and trains.
The EgroNet was launched in the 1990s as part of the Expo 2000 World Fair in Hanover. After this, it has continued to be developed in a determined fashion to meet the wishes of passengers.
19 towns, rural districts and networks are now involved, both on the German and Czech sides of border. The EgroNet covers an area of approx. 15,000 square kilometres between Karlovy Vary, Marianske Lazne, Cheb, Lichtenfels, Weiden, Pegnitz, Bayreuth, Kulmbach, Hof, Schleiz, Gera, Zwickau, Aue and Johanngeorgenstadt. Approx. 3,2 million people live in this area. 60 transport companies and 20 towns, regional districts and associations cooperate within the ticket boundaries.
The public transport services provide real comfort for passengers.
The timetables are ideally coordinated and passengers only require one ticket, the EgroNet ticket, in order to use all the means of transport available. The EgroNet was awarded the 2003 German Railway Transport Prize in the European section in recognition of its passenger-friendly services. The “Egronet” cross-border local transport network, which operates in the area where the Czech Republic and the German states of Bavaria, Thuringia and Saxony meet, has been awarded the “2006 Bavarian Environment Prize”. With just one ticket people can use all the local public transport facilities in the whole EgroNet area - and take a bike with them at no extra charge. |
